Zamasp was loud Tabari, a brother of King Kavadhs and was lifted from the nobility to the throne after his disempowerment 496. Apparently standing behind the new rulers, a group of nobles and priests who refused Kavadhs alliance with Mazdakiten and Hephthalites. Zamasp tried to stabilize the weakened Sassanid Empire again, and also taught futile pleas for financial help to the Romans ( according to some researchers, it required the payment of tributes to stabilize his position in the interior ). Soon Zamasp must have massively lost its support. As Kavadh then escape from the prison succeeded, he could assure the help of the Hephthalites and moved without significant resistance in Ctesiphon, Zamasp renounced probably more or less voluntarily to the crown. Whether he was left alive or executed by Kavadh is not known. According Prokopios allowed to mutilate him cruel to take him any further hope to the throne.
