Dmitri Fofonow ( Kazakh Cyrillic Дмитрий Фофонов; born August 15, 1976 in Alma- Ata ) is a former Kazakh cyclist.
Career
Dmitri Fofonow began his career in 1999 at the Belgian cycling team Collstrop. In 2000 he drove for Besson Chaussures and after 1998 for the second time Kazakh champion in the sprint on the track. 2001 he joined the French Cofidis Équipe.
In 2004 he first took part in the Tour de France and even managed a third place stage eleven seconds behind the winner Juan Miguel Mercado. As of 2006 drove Fofonow for the French ProTour team Crédit Agricole. In 2010 he was taken from the Astana team under contract after he was vertragslos 2009, but still achieved good results. After the 2012 season Fofonow ended his career. During his sporting career he won twelve national titles on the track and road.
Doping
On July 27, 2008 it was announced that Fofonow had been tested positive for the stimulant Heptaminol after the 18th stage of the 2008 Tour de France. He was then suspended from his team and suspended for three months.
