Band History

The group was founded in 1982 by The Doctor ( née: Clive Jackson, * July 7, 1961 in Knotty Ash, Liverpool ) founded Gareth Thomas and Steve McGuire. The Doctor was at this time a well-known DJ in the club The Clinic. He got his nickname because he had fallen through the aptitude test of the Medical Faculty. The image of the band was influenced by glam rock, the musical direction was a mix of psychedelic rock, glam rock and punk.

In 1982 the first single The Druids Are Here. Although the band was honored in 1984 by the New Musical Express as the best live band, until 1985 a stable line-up was found. 1985 came out the second single Happy but Twisted, which debuted at number one of the indie charts. With the background singers The Anadin Brothers (which quite often changed ), bassist Richard Searle and drummer Ritchie was formed in 1985 from the Alice -in- Wonderland EP on their own. This was followed by another EP and the single The Miracle of the Age, this was produced by Andy Partridge.

1986 was characterized by the single hit of the band, a cover version of Norman Greenbaum Spirit in the Sky hits. The single reached the UK # 1 on the charts and made the band famous overnight. In Germany, the single reached number 9 in the U.S. space 69 The single successor Burn, which was published in the same year, fell short of expectations and was able to place only ranked 29. It was published in 1986 and still the single Waterloo ( ABBA cover ) in collaboration with Roy Wood. This could not in the top 40 of the UK charts place ( 45th place ). The band performed mostly in night club Alice in Wonderland on which had been founded by The Doctor. 1988 got off from Ritchie and Searle. At this time, the band was already on the wane. A solid line-up could not establish stagnated sales of albums and singles themselves. The Doctor offered at this time themed rides to special concert venues, which today are considered to be early precursor of the rave movement.

From 1996 to date last studio album Instant Heaven. The band plays today still concerts, the set consists of cover versions and of course her big hit.
