Background
The song was the first single from the soundtrack to Universal Pictures film Nutty Professor II: The Klumps, where Jackson acted with Eddie Murphy as an actress. Does not Really Matter was the title song of the film. The song was Janet's ninth number-one hit in the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 and her first in the 2000 decade. The song spent three weeks at the top, making Jackson the first artist ever, who celebrated in the 80s, 90s and 2000s number-one hits in the United States.
Janet Jackson wrote the title during their free time on a laptop, where the thought came to her that this song well to the film Nutty Professor II: The Klumps and would fit its contents. Your own version of the lyrics gave Jackson the songwriting team Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis. Both for over 15 years working with Jackson. Then revised the lyrics to the final version. Later, Jackson produced the song with Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis.

Music Video
The director for music video led Joseph Kahn and the choreography developed Shawnette Heard. The music video shows Jackson in abstract futuristic animal fur clothing from Japan. Among other things, Jackson dances on floating platforms and in a futuristic vehicle ( Acura CL -X Concept Prototype ). The background to Jackson and her dancers form excerpts from the Dreamcast games Jet Grind Radio and Shenmue. The music video was aired on MTV's Making the Video on June 28, 2000, the notes were added to the origin. The music video was also released on a video CD single and on the VHS and DVDs to movie Nutty Professor II as bonus material.
