Geography

Dogern is one of the few settlements on the Upper Rhine, which forms the border with Switzerland, which are not located directly on the river. This has historical reasons. Due to flooding, the mid-18th century, the former fishing village on the Rhine was shifted northward to its present position.

In Dogern branches on the right side of the Rhine from the channel for the running water Albbruck- Dogern. The thus created storage space ( Aubecken ) is used by the Schluchseewerk as compensation for the same pond pump storage power plant.

Neighboring communities

In the west and north Dogern adjoins the neighboring town of Albbruck districts in the northeast and east by the town of Waldshut -Tiengen and their neighborhoods. To the south and south-west of the Rhine are the Swiss neighboring municipalities Full-Reuenthal, body and Schwaderloch city in the canton of Aargau.

History

The first mention of Dogern found in 1128 by the mention of Henricus a Dorgern. In 1284 Count Louis of Frohnburg -Homberg and his wife gave the Countess Elisabeth of Rapperswil, the village of St. John Coming in Leuggern. These sold their rights in 1335, which was founded in 1309 Königsfelden Monastery. When in the course of the Reformation in the city and Republic of Berne, the monastery Königsfelden was dissolved in 1528, Bern took over the rights and possessions in Dogern, which sold it in 1684 to the monastery of St. Blaise. With the secularization of the monastery was dissolved in 1806 and Dogern fell to the Grand Duchy of Baden.

Dogern together with the municipalities in Weilheim and Lauchringen an Agreed administrative community with the city of Waldshut- Tiengen.

Partnership

Since 1988 Dogern connects a partnership with the French town of Le Grand- Lemps, the capital of the eponymous canton in the department of Isère.

Culture and sights

Church of St. Clement

After laying the village due to recurrent flooding is only the church and cemetery were close to the river. After another big flood in 1765 the present church of St. Clement was born; it was completed in 1767 and on 19 July 1775 by the Bishop of Constance, Baron von Hornstein, consecrated.

Economy and infrastructure

Dogern was formerly dominated mainly by agriculture. Meanwhile, the community has developed into a residential community near the district town of Waldshut- Tiengen.

The largest employer is the office furniture manufacturer Sedus Stoll AG

Traffic

The community Dogern lies on the main road 34 between Basel and Schaffhausen and at the high Rheinbahn Basel- Singen ( Hohentwiel ). On Dogern station hourly regional trains stop Basel- Waldshut- Lauchringen DB Regio AG; weekdays during rush hours trains even every half hour.

The distances to major cities are 50 km to Basel, 80 km to Freiburg im Breisgau, 90 km and 50 km to Constance to Zurich.

Media

In Dogern the newspaper Südkurier is represented. For this, the display sheets " WOM " and " Anzeigerhochhaus Rhine " come. For the SWR radio studio in Waldshut is responsible.
