Doingt

Doingt ( Picard: doint ) is a commune with 1330 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) in the department of Somme in the Picardie region of northern France. The municipality belongs to the canton Peronne and is part of the Communauté de communes de la Haute Somme.

Geography

The municipality is located in the southeast of the district capital ( sous- préfecture ) Peronne to the department roads D937 and D199. In the west the municipality extends to the river Somme, empties into the here, the Cologne, in the north it meets with the district Flamicourt to at Peronne. In Flamicourt was a station of the abandoned railway line from Saint -Just-en -Chaussée to Douai.

History

The village was completely destroyed during the First World War. She was awarded the Croix de guerre 1914-1918.

Attractions

  • In Doingt is a military cemetery for fallen soldiers from the British Empire.
  • The Pierre de Gargantua Gargantua or finger is a 4 m high menhir with a circumference of 3 m. It lies between the D937 and the creek Cologne and is classified as a monument historique since 1840.
