Domenico Mazzocchi

Domenico Mazzocchi ( born November 8, 1592 Civita Castellana; † January 21, 1665 in Rome) was an Italian composer of the Baroque.

Maybe Mazzocchi was a pupil of Giovanni Battista Nanino. He was from 1640 in the service of Cardinal Ippolito Aldobrandini a great-nephew of the same name Pope Clement VIII in Rome. Thanks to the patronage Mazzocchi lived in great luxury. Significant is his contribution to the development of an independent Roman opera. The prints of his works are among the first in which dynamic terms such as crescendo, diminuendo, or messa di voce were specified.

His brother Virgilio Mazzocchi (1597-1646) was a musician and composer in the Vatican.
