Domingo Siazon, Jr.

Domingo Lim Siazon, Jr. ( born July 9, 1939 in Aparri, Cagayan Province) is a Philippine diplomat and politician.

Biography

After school he studied Political Science at the Ateneo de Manila University and earned a Bachelor of Arts there (BA Political Science ). He then studied with a scholarship from the Japanese Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology ( MEXT ) Physics at the University of Tsukuba and finished this with a Bachelor of Science degree. Finally, he completed a postgraduate study of Public Administration at the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University and graduated with a Master of Arts (MA Public Administration ) as well as a course in economics at the University of Colorado.

After he entered the diplomatic service and was appointed ambassador to Austria in 1976. As such, he was (IAEA ) in Vienna at the same time accredited as Permanent Representative to the United Nations ( UN) and the International Atomic Energy Agency.

In August 1981 he became director of the IAEA, and sat down with it in the election against the State Secretary at the Federal Ministry for Research and Technology Hans- Hilger Haunschild by. In 1985 he was appointed the first Director-General of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO ). This office he held until 31 December 1992 and was replaced on 1 January 1993 by Mauricio de Maria y Campos. Subsequently, he was between 1993 and 1995 Ambassador to Japan.

1995 appointed him President Fidel Ramos as foreign minister in his cabinet. This kept Siazon under Ramos 's successor as president, Joseph Estrada, to the inauguration of President Gloria Macapagal- Arroyo in February 2001. During his tenure was 2000, the kidnapping of foreign tourists on the island of Jolo by the rebel group Abu Sayyaf and the subsequent negotiation of release of the hostages and the payment of ransom.

His successor as foreign minister was Vice President Teofisto Guingona, which again appointed him ambassador to Japan. He held this position until today.
