Dominique Mamberti

Dominique François Joseph Mamberti ( born March 7, 1952 in Marrakech, Morocco ) is a French Curia, Archbishop of the Roman Catholic Church.

Life

Mamberti received after the study of Catholic theology and philosophy on 20 September 1981, the sacrament of Holy Orders.

On 1 March 1986 he entered the diplomatic service of the Holy See, and worked there first in the Papal representative in Algeria, later the Permanent Mission of the Holy See at the UN in New York, in Lebanon and in the Section for Relations with the states of the Vatican Secretariat of State. On 21 March 1987, Pope John Paul II awarded him the honorary title of Chaplain of His Holiness ( Monsignor ) and appointed him on 18 May 2002 Titular Archbishop of Sagona and at the same time as apostolic nuncio in Sudan and Apostolic Delegate in Somalia. He received his episcopal consecration Cardinal Secretary of State Angelo Sodano on 3 July of the same year. On 19 February 2004 he was the diplomatic representative of the Holy See in Eritrea.

Pope Benedict XVI. appointed him on 15 September 2006 as successor to Giovanni Lajolo as secretary for the relationship with the states - a position in the Secretariat of State, which is commonly referred to as the "foreign minister of the Vatican ". In this office Pope Francis confirmed him on August 31, 2013.
