Dominique-Marie Gauchet

Dominique -Marie Gauchet ( born August 14, 1853 in Vains, † February 4, 1931 ) was a French admiral.

Gaucher was born on 14 August 1853 in Vains and entered 1879 in the French Navy. In 1885 he was promoted to lieutenant and was stationed in the French - West African Senegal. Later he did as a ship commander service in the Far East. In 1910 he was promoted to Rear Admiral and in 1914 Vice Admiral. At the outbreak of the First World War he was in the Department "Administration and Supply" active.

After Admiral Augustin Boué de Lapeyrère was retired, Gauchet received in October 1915, the command of the French Dardanelles Squadron. After Admiral Louis Dartige du Fournet had to resign ( vêpres grecques ) due to his failed landing in Athens in December 1916 Gauchet was appointed commander of the French Mediterranean fleet. In this role, he behaved very passive, waiting for a meeting with the Austrian fleet, which never occurred.

Gauchet occurred in 1919 in retirement and died on February 4, 1931 at his birthplace.
