Dominique Struye de Swielande

Dominique de Struye Swielande (* July 10, 1947 in Ghent, Flanders) is a Belgian diplomat.

Life

Swielande Universiteit Leuven received his doctorate in law at the Katholieke. He is a Master in Law from University College London and Master in European Law at the University of Ghent. He joined the Foreign Service on 1 February 1974. From 1975 to 1976 he was in Vienna, accredited from 1976 to 1980 in Lagos. From 1980 to 1981 he was chargé d'affaires in Salisbury / Harare Zimbabwe. From 1982 to 1984 he was Counsellor in Kinshasa.

In 1984 he was accredited in Austria, Nigeria, Zimbabwe and Zaire. From 1984 to 1987 he was an advisor to Leo Tindemans. From 1987 to 1990 he was Deputy Consul General and the Belgian Government representative at the United Nations organizations in Geneva. In 1990, he led the European Department at the Foreign Ministry. From 1991 to 1992 he was engaged in the planning group by Mark Eyskens. From 1992 to 1994 was an advisor to Jean -Luc Dehaene. From 1994 to 1995 he headed the administration of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. From 1995 to 1996 he was Secretary of State in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Bürovorleiter Reginald Moreels. From 1997 to 2002 he was the Belgian ambassador to Germany. From 2002 to 2006 he was the representative of the Belgian Government to the North Atlantic Council.

From December 2006 until 29 February 2009 he was Belgian ambassador in Washington DC

In February 2009, he was Belgian ambassador in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of the Congo, where now companies of the People 's Republic of China have prospecting and mining rights. In June 2010, confirmed de Swielande, the participation of Albert II at the ceremony marking the 50th anniversary of the independence of the Democratic Republic of Congo.
