Domostroy

Domostroi, also Domostroj (Russian Домострой, literally House Rules ) is a Russian code of laws from the 16th century, which was in use until the 19th century.

After assumptions to some historians, the Domostroi was created during the 15th century under the Boyars of Novgorod and the merchant class. Middle of the 16th century, the Domostroi was revised by order of the young Ivan IV the Terrible by archpriest Silvester and the Metropolitan Macarius. This second version is preserved. Since the Code should reach a wider audience, it is written, in contrast to the prevailing Old Church Slavonic religious texts, in a lively vernacular and partly with proverbs. Therefore, it represents an important milestone in the history of literature

The Domostroi includes carefully selected rules of the public, religious, and particularly family - everyday behavior and has a moralizing and disciplining role. In particular detail, it deals with the financial management. Although all the advice in no way corresponded to the practice, they allow indirect conclusions about the everyday life.
