Do not Tell Me That It's Over was the first single release from Amy Macdonald's second studio album, A Curious Thing. Was written the lyrics by Amy MacDonald himself, produced the song by Pete Wilkinson. It was first published on February 26, 2010 in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. For the single, there are three different CD cover, the first she stands in front of a wall, in the second it is in a blue top on a fine bench and in the third she is sitting on a couch. There are two different CD formats, once there is a 2- track single containing the song Town Called Malice ( Simon Mayo Radio 2 Session ) as a B- side, then there is still the normal maxi-CD, with the B pages Young Lovers, rock ' n' roll Star (Acoustic Version) and the music video for Do not Tell Me That it's Over.
Song
In the song, Macdonald sings obviously the negative side of life - especially negative feelings - and hopes that one day all this is over. However, she realizes that these pages to life now times belong and are therefore always come back:
" I dream of a day when it's all gone away and the sun is shining bright, I dream of a day when it's all gone away, but dreams are for night. "
There is also a music video in which Macdonald is seen in a white suit as she stands on a mock skyscraper rooftop and playing an acoustic guitar to this song. In the background, constantly changing scenes of nature such as lightning, sunshine or night and day are recorded, possibly intended to represent the interplay of good and bad in life.
According to Macdonald's own words, it is the song but all about, not to be patronized by others, but to take matters into their own hands:
" And I wanna see, what it 's all about, And I wanna live, wanna give something back.
Do not tell me that it's over, It's only just begun. "
Reception
In Germany Do not Tell Me That It's Over rose in the first week at number 6 of the singles charts. Overall, the song could stay 22 weeks in the top 100, six weeks of which it remained in the top 20 As far as the maximum placement, she was best placed in Switzerland, where she could reach position four, but she could hold only 16 weeks in the Top 100. At worst it was in the UK, there was only two weeks 48th to achieve the high position. In Germany and Austria it was the second top-10 success for Amy Macdonald This Is the Life by. In Switzerland, there was even the third top 5 hit, before Mr Rock & Roll, and This Is the Life could even place in the top 5. In Switzerland, the single was certified gold in 2010.
