The Danube Island Festival on the Danube Island in Vienna is an open-air music festival with free admission, held annually since 1984 in late June on a weekend. With up to three million visitors over three days, it is the largest open air festival in Europe.

History

Was initiated the event by city politicians Harry Kopietz. Precursor in 1983 was a "cultural Early Years Festival", which took place on the finished area around the Floridsdorfer bridge on the Danube Island at that time located in the final. Harry Kopietz, who organized the Danube Island Festival until 2008, then handed over the primary responsibility to Christian German, who succeeded Kopietz also in the function of SPÖ provincial party secretary. Success

Notable concerts
