The image of man Dong Zhongshu is a balance between the Mencius and the Xun Zi He distinguishes between a " natural system " (性, xing ) and an " emotional state " (情, qing ), with rather good for him the former, the latter rather bad character is. Man is always located between these two extremes and can move through more education towards the natural disposition. Only by learning moral man can move toward the good, but he's still not bad by nature, as Xun Zi believed, as in man there is already from the beginning to the base to evolve toward the good.
