Donkey Kong Barrel Blast

Was Donkey Kong Jet Race ( in North America Donkey Kong Barrel Blast in Japan Donkey Kong Taru Jet Race (ドンキー コング たる ジェット レース) is a racing game for the Wii gaming console. Developed the game from the Japanese studio Paon, sold it was from Nintendo. The gameplay similar to that of Mario Kart, the playable characters are from the Donkey Kong series. Donkey Kong Jet Race can be seen as an unofficial sequel to the 1997 released Diddy Kong Racing.

Gameplay

Originally Donkey Kong Jet Race would appear on the GameCube and the DK Bongos are to use. One of the working title of the game was also DK: Bongo Blast. The game should have been controlled by the drums on the bongo controller. After the developers decided the game for Wii to publish the DK Bongos were replaced by the Wii Remote and Nunchuk. The player must shake it to control the characters. By lifting of Remote and Nunchuk jumps can be performs. By other gestures with the Wii controller also opponents and obstacles can be out of the way, as well as items can be used.

Criticism

From the trade press Donkey Kong Jet Race was predominantly negative light. On the website Metacritic, which gathers reviews of various magazines and calculates an average value, the game reached only 46 points. The website GameSpot and IGN gave the game 4.5 out of only 10.0 points. The U.S. GamePro gave the game even at # 1 in a ranking of the worst video games of 2007. The German magazine M! Games announced the game, however, 79 out of 100.

Donkey Kong Jet Race was criticized, among others, due to a slow gameplay, small draft and an overall boring game experience.
