Dora Stratou

Dora Stratou (actually Dorothea Stratou, Greek Δώρα ( Δωροθέα ) Στράτου; * November 1903 in Athens, † January 20, 1988 ibid ) was a well-known Greek dancer, singer and choreographer.

Dora Stratou was born in Athens in November 1903; she was the daughter of the politician and later brief the Prime Minister Nikolaos Stratos and his wife Maria Koromila. First, she studied piano, dance and theater in Athens; after the execution of her father (1922 ), which they took very psychic, she went with her mother for 10 years abroad (Berlin, Paris, New York ), where she further studied.

In 1932 she returned to Greece Karolos Koun and helped to open his theater. On the initiative of Queen Friederike of Greece Dora Stratou was commissioned to found a school for Greek folk dances. From this school, a dance group, also went abroad with the Dora Stratou developed.

In 1965 the theater was opened on Dora Stratou Filopappou Hill, the daily dance nights during the summer months until today.

The artist died in 1988.
