Dörtyol

Dörtyol is a town in the Turkish province of Hatay. At the same time Dörtyol is the capital of the district of the same name. Dörtyol is located in the north of the province on the Mediterranean. A small portion borders the provinces of Gaziantep and Osmaniye. The city has 67 430 and County 143 914 inhabitants ( 2008). Dörtyol in German means crossing and clarifies the importance of the city as a crossroads between Anatolia and Syria.

Dörtyol belonged since 1923 to the Republic of Turkey. The city was part of Adana Province. Today's Hatay Province Hatay was short independently as a state until 1938 French Mandate and 1938-1939. 1939 Hatay was annexed to Turkey and Dörtyol part of the new province.

Attractions

In the vicinity of the ancient city Dörtyol Issus, in the archaeological site Kinet Höyük suspects where in 333 BC took place the battle of Issus.
