DOSEMU

DOSEMU ( DOS emulation of ) is a DOS emulator for Linux. The project is under the GPL, making it free software. The first version (0.1) was published on 3 September 1992.

In DOSEMU the processor is not emulated, but the DOS programs run on the real processor of the PC. This is faster than the method of DOSBox, but less finely controlled (eg, can run fast with DOSEMU old games, which you can fix in DOSBox by adjusting the speed) and initially worked only on computers with x86-compatible CPU.

It is a DOS operating system for DOSEMU needed, and mostly also the free FreeDOS used. DOSEMU only provides the environment that thus running DOS programs without MS -DOS - compatible operating system is not possible.

Since version 1.4.0 DOSEMU contains a complete CPU emulation, which is used when the CPU can not use a VM86 mode ( because it runs in 64- bit mode) or if support for the VM86 mode in Linux kernel has been disabled.
