Dot-decimal notation
Dotted decimal notation or dotted decimal notation is the common representation of IP addresses and network masks in Internet Protocol Version 4
Here, each of the four octet is converted to a decimal number, and the numbers with a period concatenated therebetween. Examples: 127.0.0.1, 192.0.2.210, etc..
This notation is just a convention, at the machine level are IP addresses and network masks 32- bit binary numbers.
