Douglas Hickox

Douglas Hickox ( born January 10, 1929 in London, † July 25, 1988 ) was a British film director.

He began his career as an assistant director and second unit director in the 1950s. His first feature film he shot in 1963.

He was married to his death with the Oscar-winning film editor Anne V. Coates. Together they had three children. The sons Anthony Hickox and James D. R. Hickox are directors. The daughter of Emma E. Hickox is active as an editor.

In his honor, is awarded annually since 1998 as part of the British Independent Film Awards for the Douglas Hickox Award for the best debut film of a director.
