  • Lexicon of international film: An ironic comedy that reported in a fabulous form of efforts to humanity in a desolate environment; excellently staged and photographed, supported by brilliant performers.
  • Vincent Canby describes the film in the New York Times as a fable of poetic density. The performance of the three main characters is extraordinary. You 'll substantially supported by the work of the director and the cameraman, the three at the same time show the same scene in a concurrent setting and so enables the excellent interaction between the three.
  • Roger Ebert missed in the Chicago Sun-Times that inspired perfection which prevailed in Jarmusch 's second film Stranger Than Paradise. But Down by Law was a good movie and that he would more likely fallen, the more you understand movies.
