DR Class 65.10

The DR series 65.10 was a four -coupled passenger tank locomotive of the Deutsche Reichsbahn (DR ) for the heavy suburban and commuter traffic.

History

As standardization and modernization of its locomotive engines, and as a future replacement for the series 74, 75, 78, 86, 93 and 94 of the German Reichsbahn had since 1950 to develop several new eight-coupled locomotives. For passenger and freight service then the railway administration procured from this program 88 vehicles designated as Class 65.10 1'D2' tank locomotive. Seven other machines in this range ordered VEB Leuna -Werke Walter Ulbricht for its industrial railways.

The production pilot series locomotives 1001 and 1002 took place in VEB locomotive electrotechnical works Beimler Hans Hennig village ( LEW, formerly AEG), the series production in locomotive Karl Marx Babelsberg ( LKM, formerly Orenstein & Koppel ).

Construction

The vehicles possessed a welded frame, a welded boiler and mixing preheater and large reservoir for Carrying more fuel ( first brown coal briquettes ). Wherein the two sets of wheels of the series 65.10 rear bogie, were stored in an outer frame in contrast to the series DB 65.

Use

The 65.10 was stationed all over the GDR except in the northern depots of the DR and was used in the 1960s preferred for commuter traffic with double-deck trains, with push-pull trains. Accordingly, the machines were 65 in 1009; 1015; 1017; 1025; 1026; 1034; 1058; 1063 and 1081 equipped with a push-pull train. With the introduction of the DR- 118 series this application disappeared. In freight service it was used.

The locomotive 65 1004 was the only German tank engine equipped with a pulverized coal combustion system Wendler, which worked satisfactorily only after corrections to the structure. This conversion, however, was reversed in 1962. From 1967, the locomotives were fitted with Giesl chimneys.

Whereabouts

Only because of the use as Heizlokomotiven are still three machines available. The locomotive 65 1008 DB belongs Museum, was preserved as a heating engine in eastern Saxony and is currently processed externally in the former depot Pasewalk. 65 1049 belongs to the Railway Museum, and was until 10 September 2011 ( the deadline ) the Saxon Railway Museum Chemnitz- Hilbersdorf in use. The locomotive 65 1057 is also processed externally, in the possession of the Berlin railway enthusiasts (BEF ) at the site Basdorf. The 65 of 1057 BEF will now be reprocessed operational.
