Drago Grubelnik

Drago Grubelnik ( born January 15, 1976 in Radlje whether Dravi ) is a former Slovenian skier. He was eleven years in the World Cup at the start, his greatest successes came in the slalom.

Career

Grubelnik took from 1993 to 1995 at the junior world championships and reached its best result eighth place in the slalom in 1993. After several victories in FIS races from Slovenia started from the 1996/97 season in the World Cup. His first World Cup points he brought on 8 March 2007 with rank 27 in the giant slalom in Shigakogen, the day after he came in slalom already ranked 19th but still lacked the consistency and so he was able throughout the following season, only a countable result (25. Place in the slalom in Schladming ). Also at the 1998 Winter Olympics in Nagano, he fell from the second slalom run. In March 1998, he was champion of Slovenia in the combination and vice-champion in the slalom.

The breakthrough came Grubelnik in the season 1998 /99. On November 28, he reached the Slalom from Aspen to eighth place, two weeks later he drove in Sestriere in tenth. With two more top ten results ( seventh in Kitzbühel and tenth in Ofterschwang ), he finished 17th place in the slalom World Cup. In the 1999 World Cup in Vail / Beaver Creek, he was 21 in the giant slalom, in its stronger discipline, the slalom, he fell in the first round out. In this season of Slovenia also his only victory celebrated in the European Cup.

In the season 1999/2000 Grubelnik achieved his best World Cup result: in the slalom in Wengen on January 16, he was surprisingly behind the two Norwegians Aamodt and Furuseth third parties. He had this winter but also many failures and accept as his second-best result of the season was only a 19th place in the slalom in Kranjska Gora. After a rather weak season 2000/ 01 went Grubelnik, which started almost only in slalom races now, in the winter of 2001 /02 three times in the top ten and reached the slalom World Cup with his best result of 14th. At the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City, he fell like already made ​​four years earlier in the second slalom run.

In the season 2002/ 03 was his best result of the tenth place in Schladming, in the 2003 World Cup in St. Moritz, he finished as the best Slovene Rank 18 in slalom. The season 2003/ 04 was initially dominated again by many failures, on February 8, 2004, he reached but in the slalom in Adelboden with fifth place his second-best World Cup result. Three weeks later he drove in Kranjska Gora to sixth place.

In his further career Grubelnik did not reach the top ten results more. 2004/ 05 he came only twice to the finish, rank 19 in Sestriere was his best result of the season. In the 2005/06 season due to numerous failures he managed only a single result. With the 12th rank in Kranjska Gora, but he showed that he could produce good results still when he came through in both races. He also confirmed at the Olympic Winter Games in 2006, where he was 13th in the slalom best Slovene and achieved his personal best at major events. In the 2006/07 season, however Grubelnik came in none more competition to the finish and he went on 4 March 2007 his last World Cup race. Overall Grubelnik started at 87 and 21 slalom giant slalom at the World Cup, but reached due to its risks when driving, only 36 races in the target.
