Dragoljub Janošević

Dragoljub Janošević ( born July 8, 1923 in Belgrade, † May 20, 1993 ) was a Yugoslav grandmaster in chess.

1948 Dragoljub Janošević first played in the Yugoslav national championship; overall he came in the course of his career on 18 participants. At international tournaments of the 1950s and 60s, he won victories against the likes of Mikhail Botvinnik, Mikhail Tal, Tigran Petrosian, Bobby Fischer and Bent Larsen. Nevertheless played Janošević, who was a sports journalist by profession, not constant enough to venture into the absolute world top. In 1964 he became International Champion and won the Grandmaster title a year later, after he had finished fourth with a well-staffed tournament in Budapest in 1965.

He was considered one of the best blitz chess players of Belgrade and was also known for his blind simultaneous performances in which he played up to 20 games simultaneously.

His best historical Elo rating was 2589 in March 1954, that he was ranked 58 in the world rankings.

Worth mentioning

Janošević is one of only three players who played several games against Bobby Fischer and had a positive balance. The other two are Efim Geller and Mikhail Tal.
