Dragoslav Srejović

Dragoslav Srejovic (born 8 October 1931 in Kragujevac, † 29 November 1996) was a Serbian Yugoslav archaeologist.

He studied at the University of Belgrade, where he received his doctorate in 1954 on Neolithic and Eneolithic anthropomorphic statuettes in Yugoslavia ( Belgrade 1964). He was assistant in 1958, 1966 and 1970, Lecturer Professor of the history of the Balkans, which he remained until his death. Srejovic engaged in various branches of archeology and led many excavations in Serbia and Montenegro through or looked after them as director. Particularly important were the excavations of Mesolithic and Neolithic finds in Lepenski Vir and the excavations at the Roman settlements Gamzigard and Sarkamen. In addition, he dug example, in the early Neolithic Vlasac. Multiple publications on the excavations made ​​him known at home and abroad. His position in the cultural and scientific life of Serbia was expressed in his capacity as Vice- President of the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts. In addition Srejovic was a member of the former Yugoslav Academy of Sciences and corresponding member of the German Archaeological Institute. He died after a long illness.
