DRG Class 04

The two steam locomotives of Class 04 were medium-pressure experimental locomotives of the Deutsche Reichsbahn, which were derived from the unit steam locomotives of Class 03.

History

In 1932, the German Reichsbahn tried by the use of high strength steels the boiler pressure of 16 atm ( 156.9 N / cm ² ) to 25 atm ( 245.1 N / cm ²) to increase. The built by Krupp machines were initially investigated in the LVA Grunewald. With a specific steam consumption of 5.2 kg / hp-hr with respect to the indicated power of the engines below the already low steam consumption value of the Class 03 to about 1 kg / hp-hr significantly. The coal consumption was based on the effective power at the hitch 0.96 kg / hp-hr compared to 1.13 kg / hp-hr at 03 Unfortunately, the medium pressure boiler proved to be stable, it occurred after a short -term damage to the firebox on. Since the locomotives did not meet the expectations even after modifications and repairs, we finally sat the allowable boiler pressure in 1935 to 20 atm down and lined them with numbers 02 101 and 02 102 in the plant ingredients. You should then be used by the Bw Hamburg -Altona from the regular train service, but because you get there had any experience with Vierzylinderverbundloks, they were delivered in 1936 to the depot yard. Due to lack of water exploded the boiler of 02 102 on April 3, 1939 then looked at it from both machines; In 1940 they were finally scrapped.

The unit locomotives were equipped with a unit of the tender type 2'2 ' T 32.
