DRG Class E 79

The DR series E 79 (originally appointed as EC 4) was procured from the Bavarian Group Administration for the route Freilassing - electric freight locomotive series Berchtesgaden. The two copies were delivered in 1927 but already scrapped at the start of the Second World War.

History

After the First World War, the transportation services increased on the route Freilassing - Berchtesgaden sharply. Therefore, in 1923 two locomotives were ordered by the Bavarian Group Administration. Built by two copies of JA Maffei in Munich, while the electrical parts came from the Pöge electricity AG in Chemnitz. Originally, the machines should be put into service as EC 4 22 101 and 22 102, but due to problems with the delivery of the electrical part of the locomotives were not completed until 1927. So they got right out of the the measures envisaged by the DR after the renumbering numbers E 79 01 and 02.Auch these locomotives were each supplied with a Krauss- Helmholtz and a Krauss- Lotter - frame for the articulation of the driving axles.

Stationed the two machines when Bw Freilassing were. In use, however, they could convince only partially, especially the E 79 01 was defective prone. Another problem was the procurement of spare parts for the splinter series. Therefore, both locomotives were in 1939 and 1940, respectively retired.
