Drienovec

Drienovec ( until 1948 slovak " Somody "; Hungarian Somodi ) is a city and a municipality in Košice - okolie Okres ( Košice kraj ) in eastern Slovakia, with 2152 inhabitants ( 31 December 2011).

Geography

The municipality is located in the western part of the basin kotlina Košice ( Kassa German boiler) under the eastern foothills of the Slovak Karst, four kilometers from Moldava nad Bodvou.

Neighboring communities of Drienovec are Debraď in the north, Moldava nad Bodvou in the east, in the southeast Peder, Žarnov in the southwest and Turňa Bodvou in the West.

History

The community history and a legend, the village was first mentioned in 1241, when the defeated Hungarian army returned from the slaughter after the Battle of Muhi. 1255 a hill called Sumugy is mentioned in a list of basic boundaries of the monastery Jasov, 1345 then finally the village Sumugy that belonged to the king. This year will be reported on a toll, which stood on the path between Torna and Košice. 1710 died almost the entire village of consequences of a devastating plague. 1777 was the place the diocese Rosenau newly established. 1851 is mentioned a great Magyar village with 1234 inhabitants.

Until 1919, the county Abaúj- Torna belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary and was then Czechoslovakia. On the basis of the First Vienna Award 1938-1945 he was lying again in Hungary.

The name comes from the Hungarian word som ( German cornel slow. Mitochondria ), which also forms the basis for the first 1948 imported from national political reasons Slovak name Drienovec. Both names versions so mean as much as "the place to grow in the Cornelian cherries ".
