Driffield

Driffield is a small town in the English unitary authority East Riding of Yorkshire. It is located in the Yorkshire Wolds and is often referred to as their capital. Driffield had 2001 11.477 inhabitants in the census in the year.

Facilities

Driffield has a hospital, a fire station and a police station. There are several churches, of which the All Saints Parish Church is the largest.

There is a primary school and a secondary school. The nearest private school is the Woodleigh School, North Yorkshire.

By 2001, a cattle market was held in the city on a regular basis; However, this tradition was then canceled because of foot-and -mouth disease and has not resumed.

The city is host of the nation's biggest one-day agricultural show, the Driffield Steam And Vintage Rally. Here historic vehicles and machinery are exhibited, as well as several old ways of working, such as plowing and threshing are presented.

Traffic

Driffield can be reached via the Hull and Driffield Navigation on the waterway. The city is located on the A614 ( Nottingham Bridlington ), the A166 to York, the A164 to Beverley and the B1249 towards Scarborough. Driffield further has a railway station on the Yorkshire Coast Line from Hull to Scarborough.

Driffield is connected since mid-August 2009 on the HSDPA network.
