Drowningman

Drowningman was an American band from Burlington, Vermont, which was founded in 1996, disbanded in 2002, reunited in 2004 and again disbanded in 2005.

History

The band was formed in 1996 by vocalist Simon Brody. A short time later included guitarist Denny Donovan, drummer Todd Tomlinson and guitarist Javin Leonard. Donovan soon left the band again and was replaced by Daryl Rabidoux. As a bassist Dave Barnett came to cast. In 1997, the Single Weighted and Weighted Down released on Hydra Head Records. Their debut album, joined the following year under the name Busy Signal at the Suicide Hotline. In 1999, a split release with The Dillinger Escape Plan appeared. An EP called How They Light Cigarettes In Prison followed in 2000 on Revelation Records. In the same year also the next album Rock and Roll Killing Machine was released, which was produced by Brian McTernan. Rabidoux and Tomlinson had left the band and was replaced by Matt Roy and Joe Vill Maire. It was followed by appearances in the U.S., along with groups such as Earth Crisis, Glassjaw and Shadows Fall. After another tour followed by the U.S. with Darkest Hour, where this Josh Parent was as new guitarist in the band. In November, followed by other appearances with Darkest Hour, and in December concerts with Twelve Tribes. Planned for early 2001 performances had to be canceled because the band split from her drummer. In May the band continued their appearances and played concerts with Darkest Hour. In September appearances were planned together with Converge and Playing Enemy, but these were canceled so the band could work on new songs. In November 2001, bassist Andrew Abramowitz ( Poison the Well ) and guitarist Frank Smecker came to the band. In July 2002, singer Simon Brody left the occupation and founded with other members of the band Drowningman The Scheme, which initially led to the dissolution of Drowningman.

In September 2004, the band reunited and it came the next gigs with The Dillinger Escape Plan, Misery Signals, Every Time I Die and Zao. In summer 2005, followed by appearances in the United States along with The Number Twelve Looks Like You and The Minor Times to promote her new album Do not Push Us When We're Hot. In addition, a music video for the song White People Are Stupid under the direction of Joseph Partisall was filmed. The group also recorded a cover version of Black Flags Loose Nut for the re-release of the Black Flag tribute album, Black On Black on Reignition Records. In addition, the band on a new EP Seventenn Times Down the Stairs Trailer worked. However, the band broke up again before the release of the EP.

Style

The band plays a mix of Emo, hardware and mathcore, where the songs are extremely complex. Especially characteristic are unusual time signatures and tempo changes. Is comparable to the music with bands like The Dillinger Escape Plan and Converge.
