Includes The Dübener Heide Nature Park, the large parts of the same Duebener Heath, is the first natural park in Germany, the government was not officially due to citizens' initiatives. The nature park is an embossed from the Saale ice age, varied, hilly moorland and at the same time traditional excursion and recreation area in the relatively sparsely wooded core central Germany dar. It is located in roughly equal proportions in the states of Saxony and Saxony -Anhalt, about half way between Wittenberg in the Northeast and Leipzig in the southwest. The nature park covers about 770 km ² total area and has a population of 68,400 ( Dec. 31, 2000) a population density of 89 inhabitants per km ². 66 % of the area is forest, 29 % is used for agriculture, 2% are residential areas, 2% and 1% of surface waters are areas for commercial and infrastructure. At 1000 km of designated cycling and walking routes walks can be performed.
Support of the Natural Park eV is the association Duebener Heath. Association, founded already on 28 September 1930, re-established on 31 March 1990. He is a member of the Association of German Nature Parks and the Association of German mountain - and hiking clubs.
