Marie Alexandrine Elisabeth Eleonore of Mecklenburg [- Schwerin ] ( born May 14, 1854 in Ludwig pleasure; † September 6, 1920 in Contrexévillenear ), also known as " Maria Pavlovna the Elder", was by marriage Grand Duchess Maria Pavlovna of Russia.

Life

The daughter of Grand Duke Friedrich Franz II of Mecklenburg -Schwerin and Princess Augusta Reuss to Koestritz was in its time the most important of the grand duchesses and entertained during the reign of her nephew Nicholas II as a private courtyard. In winter 1916/1917, she moved with her ​​sons in a coup against the Tsar into consideration in order to force the abdication.
