Dudley Marjoribanks, 1st Baron Tweedmouth

Dudley Coutts Marjoribanks, 1st Baron Tweedmouth (* December 29, 1820, † March 4, 1894 ) was a British politician and animal breeders. He was best known as the first known breeder of the Golden Retriever breed.

Marjoribanks was born in 1820 as son of Edward Marjoribanks of Greenlands, from whom he inherited a considerable fortune, which he was able to greatly expand later through his work as CEO of the Meux Brewery Brewery. In the London Park Lane he built the stately Brookhouse. Later he acquired the forest Guisachan Glen Affric, Inverness -shire and larger Länderereien at Hutton and Eddington near the home of his family in Berwickshire.

1853 moved Marjoribanks as MP for the Liberal Party for the constituency of Berwick -upon- Tweed to the British House of Commons.

As a private citizen Marjoribanks mainly dealt with the dog breed. In this capacity, " created" it, among other things, known as the Golden Retriever breed.

In 1880, he was raised as Baron Tweedmouth in the peerage. The reason for this significant financial support, which was his party from him. He died in 1894.

Marjoribanks married in 1848 Isabella Weir Hogg. The couple had three children: Edward Marjoribanks, 2nd Baron Tweedmouth, the heir of his title was. The daughter Ishbel Maria married John Hamilton - Gordon, 7th Earl of Aberdeen, who later became Governor General of Canada, the daughter of Mary Matthew Ridley, 1st Viscount Ridley.
