Duke of Chaulnes

The title Duke of Chaulnes was created in favor of Honoré d' Albert and connected with the title of Peer of France. The title referred to the community Chaulnes in Picardy.

The appointment was part of a series of surveys with which King Louis XIII. thanked for the coup of 1617, which mainly Honoré's brother Albert of Chaulnes gave him to his mother Maria de ' Medici, the actual power:

  • April 24, 1617 murder Concino Concinis, Marshal of France, then exile Marie de 'Medici and Charles d' Albert's appointment as First Minister.
  • September 11, 1617 Charles d' Albert marries the daughter of the Duke of Montbazon
  • 1619: Honoré married the heiress of the house Ailly, the Comtesse de Chaulnes
  • August 1619: Charles is appointed by France to the Duke of Luynes and Pair,
  • December 6, 1619: Honoré was appointed Marshal of France
  • January 6, 1620: Léon d' Albert, brother of Charles and Honoré, married the Duchess of Luxembourg and appointed subsequently to a peer of France
  • January 1621: Honoré was appointed Duke of Chaulnes and Peer of France
  • April 2, 1621: Charles was appointed Constable of France
  • December 15, 1621: Charles d' Albert dies.

Since Honoré Children without descendants remained, fell the title in 1698 and in 1711 in favor of Charles Honoré d' Albert, Duc de Luynes, revived. This line died out in 1793 also. Since the 19th century, the title is repeated within the Albert family, but now as a " titre de courtoisie " ( courtesy title ).
