Dumbbell Nebula

The Dumbbell Nebula ( also referred to as Messier 27 or NGC 6853, from the English. Well Dumbbell Nebula ) is a 7.5 like brighter planetary nebula with a surface area of 8 ' 0 x 5 ', 7 in the constellation Vulpecula. In binoculars it is just seen in the telescope itself more structures exhibit. The central star is a white dwarf of 14 mag and a temperature of about 100,000 degrees Kelvin. The distance is about 1,400 light-years. He has received its name from Sir William Herschel because of its elongated shape. The nebula expands with 6.8 arc seconds per century. The Dumbbell Nebula was discovered by Charles Messier on July 12 in 1764.

Appearance

Under a dark, clear sky away from big cities in the PN is already visible in good binoculars as a star- like object. The dumbbell shape of the nebula can already identify with telescopes of 10 cm aperture. However, only show larger telescopes from 20 cm aperture finer structures. The surrounding the PN halo is only photographically to see with normal amateur telescopes.
