Dunam

The dunams, also dönüm, dunams, Donum, is one of several major surface measurements from Near East. It has its origins in the Ottoman Empire, where it designated the area a man could plow in a day ( cf. morning (unit), Acre (unit) ). Its name comes from dönmek ( Ottoman for auto-rotate ).

The square measure " dunam " means very different regional areas:

  • In Lebanon, Libya, Syria and Turkey, a traditional dunams of approximately 919 m² is used in parts of Syria and one with 800 m², and in parts of the former Yugoslavia, one with 700 m²; 1 Doenum = 4 Evlek = 9.18672 Ar ( Turkey)
