Dundas (Ontario)

Dundas [ dʌndəs ] is a suburb of Hamilton, Ontario in Canada.

From 1848 to 2001 Dundas was an independent town on January 1, 2001, it was after decades of political battles along with other smaller towns of the City of Hamilton.

History

The city was founded in 1848. Your name was chosen by John Graves Simcoe, Lieutenant - Governor of Upper Canada by his friend Henry Dundas, Viscount Melville, the first, a Scottish lawyer and politician.

In the 18th and early 19th century, Dundas enjoyed economic prosperity as it was connected through the Desjardins Canal with Lake Ontario. Only later Hamilton Dundas triggered in the function from an economically important city in the area.

The town has a picturesque and architecture from the early 20th century, which served several times as a backdrop for film and television.

Every year on the third weekend in August, the Dundas Cactus Festival with concerts, a parade and gambling for charitable purposes instead.
