Dunderave Castle

Dunderave Castle is a castle near the Scottish town of Inveraray. It is located on the western shore near the head of the sea inlet of Loch Fyne and is connected via the A83 just north running, which connects the Kintyre peninsula on the Central Belt to the current road network. 1971 Dunderave Castle was inducted into the Scottish monument list in the category A.

History

Builder of the castle were the members of the Clan MacNaughton, whose vormaliger headquarters Dubh Loch Castle was located a few miles west of the shores of Lake Dubh Loch. With the construction of Dunderave Castle as a substitute for Dubh Loch Castle was begun in the 16th century. It was finally completed in 1596. In the 17th century, the last owner of the castle from the MacNaughton clan planned marriage with the younger daughter of Colin Campbell, 1st Baronet of Ardkinglass from Clan Campbell to take. However, when he found out after completed wedding that he had been foisted as a wife the wrong daughter, he fled with his fiancée to Ireland. Around the year 1689 the castle fell to the Campbells. In the early 19th century Dunderave Castle is described as uninhabited with eingestürztem roof. Around 1905, bought by the Scottish physicist Sir Andrew Noble the building as part of a larger estate. The Scottish architect Robert Lorimer was then entrusted with the restoration and expansion of the castle and carried out this work in the years 1911 and 1912. Dunderave Castle has since been re-inhabited. The Scottish author Neil Munro served Dunderave Castle as a template for his work Castle Doom.
