Dunshaughlin

Dunshaughlin ( Irish: Dún Seachlainn or locally Domhnach Seachnaill, meaning: Seachnaills Castle ) is a town in County Meath in the Republic of Ireland. Dunshaughlin is located about 30 km north- west of Dublin and its population grew steadily from 2139 in 1996 over 3063 in 2002 to 3384 in the census in 2006.

History

Dun Seachlainn after the Irish " Place Names Order" of 1975, the official Gaelic name while Domhnach Seachnaill is locally used by the locals. Both names are documented narrated Dun Seachlainn in secular and Domhnach Seachnaill in church documents. The name refers to the Holy Seachnaill, a contemporary of St. Patrick, who built a church here in the 5th century.

The oldest local families are the Muintir Uí Fhloinn and the Muintir Uí Mhuirí, both of which can trace their origins to 1550.

Dunshaughlin is located on the National Road N3 and the regional road R125. The city is connected by bus service Bus Éireann in Dublin.
