Duplicati

Duplicati creates encrypted, compressed, incremental backups ( backups) and transfers it to network drives, integrated or external USB hard drives or online storage.

Providers and use

Supported protocols and online backup destinations include SSH, WebDAV, FTP, Tahoe LAFS, Amazon S3, Windows Live SkyDrive, Rackspace Cloud Files and much more. Duplicati is available as a program with a graphical interface and a command line utility. Duplicati needed. NET and runs on Windows, Mac OS X and Linux ( using Mono). Duplicati is open source software and licensed under LGPL. Duplicati is also available in a portable version without installation and without admin rights available ( Duplicati - Binaries, zip).

History

Duplicati launched with the aim of a graphical user interface for the program to create " Duplicity ". This included porting the source code to Windows. In September 2008, the original goal was discarded and a clean re- implementation began. The components used in Duplicity like rdiff ftp, etc. were replaced. The first available version was Duplicati 1.0 and was released in June 2009.

Functions

Duplicati provides a number of functions for data security:

  • Create encrypted, compressed, incremental backups
  • Automatic data transfer via SSH, WebDAV, FTP, Tahoe LAFS or to online stores such as Amazon S3, Windows Live SkyDrive, Rackspace Cloud Files and other
  • Backup of files and directories, including file filters ( globbing or regex )
  • Automatically perform backups on certain days at certain times
  • Restore individual files and folders in multiple versions
  • Open File Backup and shadow copies using VSS under Windows or Linux LVM.
  • The best Duplicati is suitable for backing up entire folders, less good for individual files.
