Dusit-Zoo

The Dusit Zoo ( Thai สวนสัตว์ดุสิต, IPA: [ Suan - SAT du- SIT ] ) is the oldest zoo in Bangkok. It is located in the Dusit district.

History

The Dusit Zoo was created in 1938 at the suggestion of Prime Minister Plaek Phibulsongkram by the city government of Bangkok. The site was made ​​by the Thai King Ananda Mahidol (Rama VIII ) available, it was at that time part of the large garden area ( Khao Din Wana - เขาดินวนา ), which had been built by King Chulalongkorn ( Rama V ) as a private botanical garden.

In February 1954, the Dusit Zoo was transferred together with investments in Chiang Mai, Chonburi, Songkhla and Nakhon Ratchasima in the Zoological Park Organization.

In early 2007, the Thai government announced a plan that provides for the relocation of the Dusit zoo in the outskirts of the capital, in order to provide more space for the equipment available can.

Location

The Dusit Zoo is located between the Chitralada Palace and the old Parliament building, the " Ananta Samakom Throne Hall ".

Plant

The grounds of the Dusit Zoo is just 20 hectares, of which about 25 % of water. The extensive grounds of the zoo harboring predominantly Asian and African species, but there are also Australian Kangaroos and American bison to see. Some 300 species of mammals, as many species of reptiles and more than 1000 species of birds can be seen. Among other things, has the Zoo Gibbon plants that are observed worldwide.

Green areas and covered areas invite you to relax and picnic. An electrically powered tram on tires provides for the transport of visitors to the site. On the play area kids can play or ride under the supervision of, for example, go-kart. The artificial lake is navigable with rented pedal boats.
