Düsseldorf rail freight bypass

The freight bypass track Dusseldorf is now partially disused railway line that connects the freight station Dusseldorf rice timber and the goods station Dusseldorf -Derendorf, both located on the railway line between Cologne and Duisburg on the former goods station Dusseldorf - Lierenfeld.

The freight rail bypass allows freight trains to bypass the heavily frequented Düsseldorf main station on a direct, separate line.

History

Already in 1863 established the Cologne -Minden Railway Company, a freight line between the then branch points Lierenfeld and military cock that was in 1880 but closed again.

In 1932 the old route was returned to service level and linked freely with the main line between Cologne and Duisburg.

Current situation

With the decommissioning of the former marshalling yard Dusseldorf -Derendorf the goods shunting path abruptly lost their meaning. Of the three the main line under cross- border routes is only the northernmost to the branching point Rethel in operation. In the western ramp of the southernmost crossing under with direct access by Lierenfeld concrete pillars have been erected for catenary systems.
