Dutch Design Week

The Dutch Design Week (DDW ) is the largest festival for design in the Netherlands. It includes exhibitions, award and Congress. The DDW takes place every October in Eindhoven.

Focus

In the Design Academy Eindhoven Theses courses of study user -oriented design, social design and information design are presented. The Technical University of Eindhoven, research shows trends in the areas Baukunde, urbanism and industrial design. In the former industrial complex Strijp -S 2012, the World Design Forum and a conference on 3D printers were held. On Stadthuis (town hall), the winner of the Dutch Design Awards are seen. The city is home to fashion and museums. The DDW 2012 offered a total of 300 events in 83 locations with 1,500 designers.

Background

Eindhoven is considered as a technology center. Since its inception in 1891 the electronics group Philips has its main production and research site here. More employers are the truck manufacturer DAF, automotive and microelectronics. The textile industry is now past.

To support design, technology and business location for the first time in 2002 a Week van het Ontwerp was aligned. Since then finds the DDW annually held in October and peaked at 200,000 visitors.

Participation

The entry of many presentations is free. The ticket for the Graduate Show last cost 13 EUR. A free shuttle connects the individual venues and also stops at Eindhoven Railway Station.
