Dylan Tichenor

Dylan Tichenor ( born June 1968) is an American editor. His work on Brokeback Mountain ( 2005) and There Will Be Blood (2007) has been honored with several important nominations and an award for the film industry. Tichenor has worked frequently with director Paul Thomas Anderson.

Life

Dylan Tichenor began at an early age with his father to watch movies and deal with cine-film material. In 1986 he graduated from the Philadelphia 's Central High School in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania graduated from high school.

Tichenor began his career in the film business in 1991 with the employees at City of Hope by John Sayles. He then worked for a period of five years, especially under the editor Geraldine Peroni, from which he learned to cut. Peroni belonged to the permanent staff of director Robert Altman. Among the films in which Tichenor cooperated with their offer are The Player (1992) and Short Cuts (1994). Tichenor estimated to Robert Altman, above all, that he was not afraid to give even inexperienced but motivated talents a chance in the production of a film.

From 1995 to Tichenor worked as executive editor. After smaller orders the cut of Boogie Nights Tichenors 1997 was the first major, independent work for the big screen. For the film section, he received a Satellite Award. With director Paul Thomas Anderson Tichenor had previously worked together at the debut Last Exit Reno ( also 1997) as coordinator of the post. In Magnolia ( 1999), the next film by Anderson, Tichenor served not only as an editor but also as co-producer. In addition to several music videos, the previous collaboration of the two Tichenors this section assessed by critics as a top notch, but also bulky film extends to the hit film There Will Be Blood in 2007. 2008 was nominated for an Oscar.

Tichenors first major success, however, he was able to record in 2005 as editor of the cowboy romance Brokeback Mountain by Ang Lee. The occasion of his participation in the project was sad: His mentor Geraldine Peroni had the cut of the film already started when she suddenly committed suicide in 2004. Tichenor took their place in the film production. He says that he tried to connect as seamlessly as possible to Peroni's work and felt the true continuation of her work as a valuable process of tribute to her.

Dylan Tichenor is one of the members of the American Cinema Editors (ACE ), the Association of the U.S. cutter. Since 2008 Tichenor is also a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences ( AMPAS ), which is mainly known for the annual Academy Awards, or Oscars.

Work style

Dylan Tichenor says he will appreciate it if filmmakers can tell stories ( such as, for example, Robert Altman, Ang Lee and Paul Thomas Anderson). This he sees as opposed to a rather effektheischenden aesthetics, in which a setting is chosen only to the current effect on the audience. With the ability to tell stories, Tichenor combines the ability of the director to adopt a clear position in the film to maintain a continuous point of view and thus a narrative of the story. Accordingly Tichenor claims to have studied at the cut of the film more like "real moments " in which things come together and find the ideas of the film its resonance.
