Earl Blumenauer

Earl Blumenauer ( born August 16, 1948 in Portland, Oregon) is an American politician. Since 1996 he represents the third electoral district of the state of Oregon in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Early years and political rise

Earl Blumenauer visited the Lewis & Clark College in Portland until 1966, the Centennial High School and then to 1970. He finished his education in 1976 with a law degree from Lewis & Clark Law School. Between 1970 and 1977 he was next to his studies also assistant to the head of the Portland State University.

Blumenauer was a member of the Democratic Party. Between 1973 and 1978 he was a member of the House of Representatives of Oregon; 1975 to 1981 he was on the board of the Portland Community College. He was then 1978-1985 District ( Commissioner) in Multnomah County. He was also from 1986 to 1996 a member of the City Council of Portland. In 1990 and 1991 he was a member of the Education Commission of the Governor of Oregon.

Congressman

After Congressman Ron Wyden was elected to the U.S. Senate, elections for by the U.S. House of Representatives has become vacant spot found in early 1996 instead of the third electoral district of Oregon. These elections won Earl Blumenauer as a candidate of his party with 69 % of votes. So that he could take up his new mandate in Congress on May 21, 1996. In the following regular congressional elections, he was confirmed in each case by a clear majority. His election results were between 67 % and 84 %. His current term of office runs until 3 January 2011. In Congress, he is a member of the Committee on Budgets, the Committee on Energy Independence and Global Warming and the Committee on Ways and Means. He also belongs to two sub-committees. In 2004 and 2008 he was chairman of the campaign team of John Kerry and Barack Obama in Oregon. Earl Blumenauer is married to Margaret Kirkpatrick Blumenauer. Privately, he lives in Portland.
