Earl of Cromer

Earl of Cromer, in the County of Norfolk, is a British hereditary title of nobility in the Peerage of the United Kingdom, named after the town of Cromer in Norfolk, which is supported by the Baring family.

Award

The title was in 1901 for Evelyn Baring, 1st Viscount Cromer, created, was the British consul general in Egypt from 1883 to 1907 and had major responsibility for the establishment of British rule in Egypt.

Subordinate title

Baring was in 1892 created Baron Cromer, Cromer of in the County of Norfolk, and in 1899 created Viscount Cromer, in the County of Norfolk, was appointed. With the award of the earldom, he was Viscount Errington, of Hexham in the County of Northumberland simultaneously. All three titles that are listed as subordinate titles, are also in the Peerage of the United Kingdom.

The heir takes the courtesy title Viscount Errington.
