Earl Weaver

Earl Sidney Weaver ( born August 14, 1930 in St. Louis, Missouri, † January 19, 2013 on the Caribbean Sea ) was an American baseball manager in Major League Baseball. His nickname was The Earl of Baltimore.

Biography

Earl Weaver spent his entire managerial career with the Baltimore Orioles. Under his direction, the Orioles won six titles in the American League East, four championships in the American League and a World Series title. He won 1480 games at 1060 defeats. Weaver is also the manager, who was sent off in the Major League Baseball the most. 98 times had Weaver, usually after discussions with the referees, leave the place.

In 1982 he finished his first period of service with the Orioles and moved as a television commentator for ABC. He commented in 1983, together with Howard Cosell and Al Michaels the World Series in 1983 with the Orioles.

In 1985 and 1986 he took again the post of manager. He was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1996.
