Earlene Brown

Earlene Brown (born Dennis, born July 11, 1935 in Laredo, Texas, † May 1983; Compton ) was an American shot putter and discus thrower.

At the Olympic Games in Melbourne in 1956, she was sixth in the shot put and fourth in the discus throw. In 1959 she won gold in both disciplines at the Pan American Games in Chicago.

The following year, she won the shot put of the Olympic Games in Rome 16.42 m bronze behind Tamara Press from the Soviet Union ( 17.32 m ) and the German Johanna Lüttge ( 16.61 m). In the discus throw, she was sixth.

According to a twelfth place in the shot put of the Olympic Games in Tokyo in 1964, she ended her athletics career and became a star in the Roller Games, a variant of Roller Derby.

Eight times she became U.S. champion in the shot put (1956-1962, 1964), three times in the discus throw (1958, 1959, 1961 ) and once in baseball throw ( 1957). In the hall she took in 1958 the national title in the shot put. In the shot put she turned seven and in the discus throw six national records, as last with 16.69 m on September 22 in Frankfurt am Main and with 53.91 meters on July 16, 1960 in Abilene.
