Earthenware

Earthenware (also earthenware ) is a collective term for a class of ceramic materials. For them, the pieces sinter during the firing process is not completely sealed, so that unglazed earthenware is permeable to water due to open porosity.

Important starting materials are clay, feldspar, lime and partly more admixtures. The sintered shards is porous, hard, strong, and not structured thin translucent.
